This position reports directly to the CEO. Reporting to this position are all drivers, dispatchers and Customer Service Representatives.
Accountability: responsible for coordinating and supervising all traffic functions relating to freight movement into and out of the warehouse(s), maintaining prescribed service levels while keeping costs at a minimum, training, and supervising those in the Transportation Department to ensure meeting departmental and company objectives.
Develops appropriate transportation policies and programs that meet cost and service objectives and production and customer needs (covers sourcing, rate negotiation and the purchase of transportation, freight bill auditing and overcharge claims and optimum traffic routes) Develops and directs the implementation of procedures to ensure that freight claims are processed and collected in a timely manner. Identifies and analyzes transportation costs, equipment availability and service levels, making recommendations and instituting corrective action. Ensures that the company complies with Federal and state transportation regulations and that safety remains our number one priority.
Responsibilities:
Scheduling: direct and supervise the scheduling of incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure efficient resource utilization and achievement of customer relations goals. Determine the most economical traffic patters. Interface with Warehousing to resolve problems associated with scheduling and dispatching. Schedule customer pickups as required.
Relationships: arrange for carrier services by specifying routings, preparing tracers on lost shipments, and preparing and filing claims for damages, lost shipments and overcharges. Ensure compliance with all government regulations. Evaluate and negotiate carrier rates. Prepare rate proposals for prospective customers.
Labor Management: develop and maintain a productive staff. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques’ in supervising, coaching and disciplining associates. Evaluate performance for recommending promotions, wage increases and terminations.
Communications: Interact with other departmental management in the warehouse to achieve goals.
Documentation/Reporting: prepares budget. Oversees billing and record payments of freight bills. Establishes a financial audit for fleet operations to determine its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Operates and effective transportation information reporting and management system.
